Talking to Children About Race + Racism

Helpful resources for parents to help start the conversation.

Various

Our mission at Explore! Sandbox is to create a centralized online resource for parents that encourages exploration through activities that cater to children’s individual interests, regardless of race, gender, creed, sex, disability, or national original. The reality is, today, not all children are given the same opportunities or access to explore the world around them, their interests, and their communities due to the systemic racism that pervades our country.

See below for a series of resources we have compiled to help start the conversation between parents and children:

From the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History, "Talking about Race" Web Portal

From the The National Association of Early Childhood, "Recommendations for Everyone"

From National Geographic, "Talking to Kids about Race"

From the American Academy of Pediatrics, "Talking to Children about Racism: The Time is Now"

From Teaching Tolerance, "Teaching about Race, Racism, and Violence"

From Common Sense Media, "Resources About Race and Racism"
