OUR MISSION

Create a DC-based Children's Museum that engages children and the District at many levels.

Our mission

At Explore! we inspire children to be curious thinkers, creators, communicators, and collaborators.
Exploration

Children will have immersive play and learning opportunities with authentic tools and materials that encourage creativity and problem solving in a social environment.

Excitement

Children will experience the joy and wonder of learning, as they pursue their own interests and develop important life skills.

Engagement

Explore! will engage families, schools, and community organizations to extend the learning experience for children.

Evaluation

Explore! will utilize qualitative and quantitative methodologies  to measure the museum’s impact and effectiveness and learn about how best to serve our visitors.

Philosophical Purpose

At Explore! we spark the curiosity and creativity of children and inspire wonder about the world. A private 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, Explore! is dedicated to serving children birth through age 10 in the District of Columbia, Virginia and Maryland.
Explore! is committed to serving all members of the community regardless of age, race, color, religion, creed,
citizenship status, marital status, sexual orientation, sex, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, disability, veteran status or any other protected status under applicable law

The Explore! Hub

The Explore! Hub, our central museum, will be located at Art Place, a dynamic development filled with arts programming, neighborhood retail and apartments in the Fort Totten neighborhood of Washington, DC. Highly accessible, the location is one block from the Fort Totten metro with its Red, Green, and Yellow metro lines, over 800 bus trips daily, and free parking.

The Hub

Located in the Washington DC neighborhood of Fort Totten, The Hub will become the future home of  Explore! Children’s Museum.   In addition to the Hub, Explore! will continue to run Mission Mobile, a retrofitted bus designed for middle school students. Students will journey through the human body or trek through uncharted waters. In early 2017, Explore! and the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery opened an interactive children’s museum experience inside the Portrait Gallery.
