This week is Fat Bear Week! Each year, bears gain weight and store fat so they can hibernate for winter. The Katmai National Park and Reserve in Alaska holds a contest each year to see which bear is fattest of the year. You can vote for the bears and learn more about why bears store fat for the winter at the bottom of the page when you click the Explore! Here button above.
Follow the lives of the brown bears of Brooks River from anywhere with an internet connection. Katmai National Park and explore.org have partnered to bring the bears to you. See the bears live on the cams below during the summer and early fall, typically late June through early October. In the off-season, enjoy highlights from the previous year.
